Amauta hodeei (Oberthür, 1881) and its subspecies (Lepidoptera Castniidae), with comments on the life and times of Brother Apolinar María

    ABSTRACT
In 1948, a fired destroyed the La Salle Museum in Bogota, Colombia, which was built with a great effort by the La Salle religious teaching congregation, but with the particular and decisive input of Brother Apolinar María. He became a champion of the study of the natural history of Colombia and through the museum, he established numerous connections with scientists and naturalists worldwide. Some rare Castniidae were among the numerous specimens of the fauna he traded with museums around the world. General information about Brother Apolinar María, the La Salle Museum, and the subspecies of Amauta hodeei (Castniidae) are provided here in an attempt to improve and stimulate the interest in such a remarkable naturalist and some rare and almost unknown species of the South American Fauna. One of these ssp. (A. hodeei kruegeri) is reported from Ecuador, thus increasing knowledge about its geographical distribution.

The Giant Butterfly-Moths (Lepidoptera Castniidae) of the Upper Silesian Museum (Muzeum Górnośląskie) in Bytom, Poland, with notes on the history of the Museum

    ABSTRACT
The Upper Silesian Museum was founded in 1910, and besides the struggles and restrictions suffered during World War II it still remains as a relevant showcase for culture and science of Silesia, its surrounding regions, the country and even the world. Its Natural History collections are recognized as one of the largest and most important in the country. In an effort to revise and curate the Lepidoptera collection, we found an interesting and well maintained group of giant butterfly moths (Castniidae). Besides providing historical information on the Museum and its origins, we also include a list with notes about the Castniidae under their care.

Observations on Athis thysanete (Dyar, 1912) (Lepidoptera, Castniidae) from Mexico and comparative notes to other species in the family

    ABSTRACT
General information on distribution, biology, and behavior on a rare species of the family Castniidae, Athis thysanete (Dyar, 1912), endemic from Mexico, is provided. Comparative notes are also given of the Chilean Castnia eudesmia Gray, 1838, in an attempt to understand the insect-plant relationships of A. thysanete. The note ends with additional remarks on the need for conservation of the habitat of the species.
